 DEVELOPMENT OF THE TECHNOLOGY FOR PRODUCING OF MULTI WALL CARBON NANOTUBES OF HIGH QUALITY

Description of the project offered:
Carbon nanotubes are used in a wide range of diverse branches of human activity. Within the Carbon nanotubes can be applied for such needs:
• nanofluids (energetics, highly efficient heat transfer fluids);
• composite materials (reinforced metals, alloys, plastics and rubbers, reinforced concrete and seals);
• sorption elements (e.g., hydrogen storage);
• medicine;
• electronic engineering, etc.

Deterrent of carbon nanotubes use is their relatively high price and the complexity of purifying them from supporting materials (soot, precursors).

For today it has been developed and tested technology for producing carbon nanotubes based on the carbon chemical deposition of hydrocarbons conversion products. Laboratory installation for research of processes of obtaining of carbon nanotubes are designed and erected. Installations include the reactor of hydrocarbon conversion, electrical furnaces with reactor of carbon nanotubes deposition, control-measurement equipment of composition of products of hydrocarbons conversion. It also have been created the laboratory unit for studying the kinetics of this process. Influence of the nature of precursor on the size of the resulting nanotubes have been studied.

The use of available hydrocarbons (methane, propane-butane) with simultaneous control of technological process parameters allows the obtaining of pure carbon nanotubes which are not contaminated by amorphous carbon and do not require additional purification. We plan that the price on high-quality MWCNTS will be less than 40 $/kg.
The results of our studies were presented at international conferences: International Conference “NANOCON 2012”, Brno, Czech Republic, EU; Russian–French School Seminar “Carbon Nanomaterials: Structure and Properties, Beregove, the Crimea, Ukraine; The International research and practice conference “Nanotechnology and nanomaterials” (NANO-2015), Lviv, Ukraine. And publications in professional scientific journals such as Physica Status Solidi, International Journal of Energy for a Clean Environment and others.

While project fulfillment it will be finalized scientific-technical principles of creation of high efficiency technologies for the production of high-quality multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
Predictive patterns of influence of major factors (carbon, oxygen, hydrogen potentials of the atmosphere, temperature, nature of catalyst, its size, etc.) on the yield of carbon tubes will be developed. That will allow us to scientifically substantiate the technology to produce carbon nanotubes of high purity. The obtained results will create the necessary preconditions for the development of equipment for industrial production taking into account their varied use. The work also involves marketing research and the creation of appropriate business plans for the implementation of development.

Expected results:
Development of scientific bases, techniques and equipment that are necessary to obtain high-quality MWCNTS in industrial quantities.
Patenting of the results of the developed technology and equipment at the international level.
The creation of competitive production of high-quality carbon nanotubes with possibility of it multiplication.

Obtained results will create the necessary preconditions for attracting European investments.
